The third round of the Scottish Cyclo Cross series at Lochore Meadows took place on Sunday with FWCC represented by experienced cyclo-crosser Catherine Logan. Due to the exceptionally warm summer this year the muddy quagmire that is normally Lochore Meadows, with parts of the course virtually unrideable, was this year dry. The women's event is forty minutes plus one lap and the older you are the nearer the back of the field you start. Being highly 'experienced' Catherine was on the last row. An initially good start was undone by a small tumble half way round the first lap. Back on the bike, Logan worked her way forward again, catching an arch rival who commits the cyclo-crossing sin of also riding a mountain bike. The battle really got going. No matter how hard the rival tried to pass she was blocked at every opportunity but, frustratingly, even though she was dropped on many bits of the course she always caught up. On the final lap Logan resolved not to be passed. The rival also resolved not to hand over a win, so it was a sprint finish. Having sat on Logan's wheel for so long there was no way the rival rider was going to pip FWCC to the finish and she didn’t. Both riders finished on the same second with Logan half a bike length ahead for ninth in category.
