Excitement is building in Fullarton Wheelers because next week the Club are helping to host the National 10 Mile Time Trial. This is a major sporting event which has attracted the country's best riders to our local time trial course here in Irvine. We are expecting records to tumble, so come along and watch. The event headquarters are in Eglington Park, and the Tour de France style start ramp is to be located opposite the entrance. There will be a road closure in place on Saturday and Sunday mornings from the Eglington Interchange Roundabout towards the park entrance, and race marshals will line the route which heads down the A78, returning back on itself at Papermill Roundabout. Readers may have noticed the roadworks on the A78 this week. These are being carried out in preparation for the event. The long overdue resurfacing will not only make for faster times, but also much more comfortable car journeys! The racing action kicks off on Saturday 1st September, with the first Junior rider departing at 09:01 and the women racers departing from 10:01. The men’s event starts at 09:01 on Sunday 2nd September. FWCC will be represented by an on-form Catherine Logan, veteran speedster Gordon Graham, and have-a-go hero Allan Duncan. FWCC Committee Member Dave Walker has played a significant role in bringing the event to Irvine and in organising what promises to be an exciting weekend of cycling.
