The deserted hill roads of South Carrick played host to the fourth annual Ayrshire Alps Sportive on Sunday. Organised brilliantly by our friends at Ayr Burners Cycle Club, this is a 100km cycle challenge which sets off from Kirkmichael and takes in no fewer than six 'alpine' climbs, including the infamous Nic O'Balloch. For the past three years this has been an opportunity for cyclists around the UK to visit South Ayrshire and top up their tan lines: not this year though. Scottish summer returned with a vengeance to leave a much depleted FWCC contingent, made up mostly of supporters in their cars. All-weather riders Sean Barron and Joe Boyle completed the soggy challenge in under four hours, ascending into the low cloud at the top of Glenella and avoiding the sheep on the descent off Tairlaw. Well done to both.
