FWCC and Sprockets Cycles youth rider Zoe Watters became a double Scottish champion this weekend at the National Track Championships, held at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. Zoe dominated the forty lap scratch race launching repeated attacks from the back of the bunch to put fatigue into the sprinters who were trying to conserve their energy. A final bunch sprint saw Zoe come from third wheel with one lap to go, snatching gold by half a wheel from Team 22's Abby Stewart, becoming the new Scottish Champion in the process. Saturday featured the 60 lap points race, with points awarded for the first four riders over the line every ten laps with double points on the final lap. Similar tactics to the previous day saw all of the strongest riders continually breaking from the back in a hectic and full on battle. It was hard to keep track of the points situation. After a tense post-race wait the results put Zoe in first place with 26 points: double Scottish Junior Champion. On the way home a delighted Zoe became a little emotional as she remembered all the support and encouragement she has received over the years, from first the FWCC youth section and later all the adult members who played a huge part in encouraging her in her love of bike racing.
