Fullarton rider Beth Macrae came seventh in Event 1 of the Scottish National Women's Road Race Series held on Saturday in Aberdeenshire. A stage race, it comprised a hilly prologue time trial of 3.5 miles in the morning and a 32 mile road race in the afternoon. Women's road racing is fiercely competitive and fantastic to watch. The afternoon road race got off to a flying start on a tight and hilly course. The eventual winner dominated throughout, but was far from unchallenged. Attack after attack was launched off the front, but rider Macrae and Fullarton/Sprockets Cycles teammate Zoe Watters held on to the lead group while a comet tail of riders streamed off the back. Macrae's determination paid off. On the last lap the lead group stretched out to breaking point but she clung on and did enough for seventh place: a superb result. Event 2 of the WomenÂ’s Series is on Sunday 13th May.
