There were seven Fullarton Wheelers competing in the Cycling Time Trials Scottish National 25m TT on Sunday. Using the ever popular Westferry Course near Port Glasgow, this was a packed event with some of the country's best riders keen to lay down a record or two. Scottish cycling superstar Katie Archibald was in attendance supporting her brother John and dad Ian. Katie is still recovering from a recent crash and was unable to compete but John recorded the second fastest time by a Scot to win the event in 48' 13", which is an incredible average speed over 25 miles of 31.11mph. This was only slightly slower than the all-time Scottish record of 47' 57" which he set last year. Fullarton second member Aileen Clyde posted an excellent 01' 05' 13" (at 23.00 mph) for fourth in the women's event and 84th overall. Catherine Logan crossed the line in 01' 06' 25" (at 22.58mph) for fifth equal in the women's event, 89th overall, and first place in the veteran over fifty category. The fastest woman on the day was Mereille Captieux in 01' 00' 57" (at 24.61mph). The FWCC male competitors also posted some fast times and gained some impressive placings. In 20th place overall was experienced time trialist Gordon Graham who posted a very fast 56' 19" (at 26.63mph). Alan Duncan beat the magical hour mark with a time of 59' 40" (at 25.14mph) enough for 36th place overall, and so did FWCC Club Chairman Derek Skinner with a time of 59' 50" (at 25.07mph) slotting into 39th place. Stevie Watters achieved 48th place overall in a time of 01' 01' 06" (24.55mph), narrowly missing the hour mark. Mikey Allen was a little disappointed with his time but 01' 03' 52" is still a strong ride and 76th place a respectable mid-table finish in a top event. Stevie Donaldson hit the line in 01' 11' 07" and was delighted not to be last; far from it. Stevie’s time works out as an average speed of 21.1mph sustained over 25 miles which is a fair bit faster than riders lower down in the placings. Congratulations to all the FWCC riders who took part and with a bit of luck the sunny weather should hold out for next week’s Scottish Cycling National 25m TT Championship in Fordoun.
