World Transplant Games

Post by Guy_Walker » Thu 06 Jul, 2017 12:02 pm

Steve Donaldson of Fullarton Wheelers was part of the Great Britain Cycling Team that participated in the World Transplant Games in Malaga, Spain last week. Steve, who has had a heart and lung transplant, took part in three events; a 5 kilometer individual time trial, followed by a 20 kilometer team time trial and finally a 30 kilometer road race, over just two days in sweltering heat with temperatures hitting over 40 degrees.

In the 5K time trial Steve achieved a time of 8’ 03” placing him 11th out of 32 in his age group and 52nd out of 130 overall. In the team time trial Steve, as part of the three man GB Team, got a time of 28’ 01” placing them 10th of 20 teams, and managing to catch and lap Team USA during the event. In the final event, the 30K road race, Steve put in a fantastic effort, to come 13th overall.

Steve is an inspiration to all at Fullarton Wheelers and the Club are particularly delighted to have one of their members competing at international level.
